The 6-9 age group learn and practice the fundamentals of doubles matchplay. They work on skills such as approaching the net and cross court doubles play. "My goal for the 6-9 year old division is to train kids to instinctually where to position themselves on a tennis court and how to temper their shots under pressure" says Juan. Juan works with the 6-9 and 10-14 age bracket as well as coaches many of the Junior Academy classes at the Portland Athletic Club.
The 10-14 age group begin actual matchplay. After every game they discuss fundamental defensive and offensive strategies. The goal for the 10-14 age bracket is to get them used to starting points and figuring out how to most efficiently play different players of varying strengths and to give them an overall basic understanding of competition and to prepare them for matches against any player.
The 14-17 age group’s main focus is learning to adjust their performance on the tennis court in order to achieve their maximum potential.
The goal is to have them realize and understand their errors and for them to become their own coaches. The group goes over doubles formation, how to properly return serves, court positioning, technique and strategy, as well as touching on semi competitive play.
Junior Portland Tennis League is our new program that is geared towards bringing your child's tennis game to the next level. Kids receive feedback during their match play on strategy, skill work, court positioning, and more.
